How to treat hormonal acne

What is Acne?

Acne Vulgaris is a common skin condition that causes noninflammatory lesions, inflammatory lesions and scarring1. It affects over 85% of adolescents and can persist into adulthood, having an effect on over 50% of 20–29-year-olds.

Acne can occur due to hormonal fluctuations causing an overproduction of sebum (oil). Acne Vulguris is a multifactorial process involving four stages;

  • Comedogenesis: blocked philosebaceous follicles
  • Bacterial colonization of P. Acnes in the blocked follicles
  • Seborrhoea: increased sebum production
  • Inflammatory process caused by P. Acnes bacteria

How does Omnilux CLEAR help with acne?

P.acnes is the key bacteria responsible for acne. This bacteria produces coproporphyrin III and protoporphyrin, which are sensitive to light at 415nm (blue) wavelengths. If stimulated by light these chemicals will neutralize the bacteria and cause inflammation to subside.

Omnilux CLEAR is designed to reduce mild to moderate Acne Vulugaris on the face by working on a cellular level to stimulate coproporphyrin III and protoporphyrin chemicals to irradicate the inflammation associated with acne through optimized wavelengths of blue light. This is also combined with 633nm of red light, which targets the acne bacteria deeper in the sebaceous glands and minimizes the redness of acne lesions, boosts blood oxygen levels in the skin and promotes the generation of healthier skin cells.

Hormonal acne can be treated clinically and holistically; there are various topical creams that can be applied, harsh medications such as Accutane can be prescribed, diet can be changed and all-natural and gentle (yet high effective) LED light therapy, such as Omnilux CLEAR, can be introduced. (It should be noted that it is not recommended to use light–therapy devices while taking Accutane and other similar medications.)

Many independently published clinical studies have validated the effectiveness of LED phototherapy. Omnilux devices have been profiled in over 40 of these studies proving that Omnilux is safe and effective in the treatment of common skin conditions, including acne, pigmentation and rosacea.

Clinical studies show that 70% of acne is cleared after just 4 weeks using Omnilux technology.

Dr M. B. Taylor, MD. Said, “When Omnilux is used alone to treat acne, patients not only report excellent clearance, they report better texture and skin tone.”

Omnilux CLEAR alone is a verified treatment for Acne Vulguris but could yield even greater results when combined with a change in diet specific to achieving hormonal balance.
